Meet the Administrators

Leadership Team

Dear Westside Families and Students,

Welcome to Westside Elementary School!  We are excited to jump start the 2016-2017 school year.  I’m honored to be the principal at Westside! Just a little background information about myself: I am a graduate of Fayetteville State University, where I received my bachelors in Middle Grades Education. I’m also a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, where I received my Master’s in School Administration. I am currently working on my doctorate degree in Educational Leadership through Gardner Webb University. I have many years of experience education, including teaching and administration on the elementary school level. I’m married and have one son who will also attend Westside!

The history of Westside Elementary reflects Children First…. Now and Always.  The journey toward lifelong learning continues as we prepare a learning community where “little eagles soar”.  We believe in the nurturing of the mind, body, and soul and are proud of the progress that Westside has made in the last year toward accreditation and meeting AYP Standards.

During this new school year, administrators, teachers, and all partners in education will work to build positive, child centered learning communities within our school.  Westside is fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff members, faith-based community members, and business partners, who place the individual needs of children first as they expand and broaden our children’s knowledge base.  Our staff believes it is their mission to serve, support, teach, and enrich every child.  Virginia State Standards of Learning (SOLs) will set the pace and guide the curriculum as instructional decisions are made and implemented.

Westside Elementary School has a long history of instructional excellence in the fine arts area of instrumental music and visual art.  While it is important to promote the fine arts and performing arts program, it is our goal to maintain a rigorous academic program that is complimented by the arts.  Our students’ participation in the fine arts promotes self-confidence, self-esteem, creativity and team work.  In addition to instruction in the fine arts areas, our students participate in physical education, learn and enhance their character in guidance, and  expand their literary knowledge in our library.  All of these combined experiences truly nurture our students’ mind, body, and soul.

We are looking forward to working with you and your child during the
2016-2017 school year.  Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have suggestions, questions or concerns. It is going to be a great year!

 Most Sincerely,

Tamika Singletary-Johnson
